SUMMER SANDS BEACH RESORT
Arrived here late afternoon after five and a half hours of bumping along non-stop in a quite nice a/c Mercedes A. Decision was, weekend at the beach and also cover a few kilometers (250) north. Felt we needed a breather after the cities, especially after a nearly lost day of just wishing to die after too much heat, spice or something!
Chose this place from Rough Guide and hoped for the best. Turned into a lane with trees and bungalows, just like a scene from 1960's British suburbs! Bungalows with a stone-clad panel and porthole window, each a different colour (often very bright, ours is lime green). Room large with a/c unit, wet-room type bathroom with very elegant glass wash basin. No bath - didn't expect one - but hot shower. Verandah too. Not bad.
Unpacked a bit then walked down lane. 2 minutes - beach! Lovely palm-fringed beach, splashing sea, courtyard restaurant overlooks it. Getting better! Sea great to dabble but too much undertow for real swimming, but there is a lovely pool. Trips can be arranged, and there is a little town quite near, so should be fine for weekend. Also sent laundry - treat to have everything clean. Meals here are enormous and not very expensive. I've always rather despised ordering 'just one between us' but honestly, it''s loads. One thing I like here in general, is breakfast is never described as 'included'. It's 'complimentary'. Subtle difference, but nice. Here, first there is a plate of freshly cut fruit, pineapple, mango and the sweetest water melon, to dabble while you wait. Then toast, butter, e-number jam arrives. Then eggs to your order. Then, like a dessert, cornflakes, milk and tea. Interesting. All very nice.
Jake has complained that there are not enough pictures of us with our blog. Sorry Jake, will try to get plenty while we're here and send a well-illustrated episode. There will be loads more pictures when we come home - not always easy to upload them, especially if there is no broad band - and even bb can be debatable!
Enjoy your weekend. summer Sands looks good and I'm sure sand, sea, pool and courtyard restaurant are great after your time in the cities.
